MIA Korean War Veteran Victor Irving Gallerani, USA to be Honored at Korean War Memorial May 21, 2016 at 12:00 Noon
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Jo Ann M. Bauer, Treasurer 1-508-770-0111 1-508-523-3953 cell

Worcester, MA, May 12, 2016 – The Korean War Memorial Committee of Central Massachusetts, Inc. will hold a ceremony at the memorial on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at 12:00 noon to recognize and honor SGT Victor Irving Gallerani, USA, of Grafton, on its “Freedom Is Not Free” Wall of Honor.

SGT Gallerani was officially reported missing in action during the Korean War on November 28, 1950. His remains have never been found. He was promoted to sergeant May 1, 1953. On December 31, 1953 Victor was presumed to be dead by the Secretary of the Army due to the length of time he had been missing.

When the Korean War Memorial was built, SGT Gallerani’s name was omitted from the black granite memorial, likely due to confusion about his residence at the time he enlisted in the Army. Last year, the Korean War Memorial Committee received a request from his niece, Lysa Arthur, to have his name engraved on the memorial and after a thorough review of materials provided by Ms. Arthur, the Executive Board unanimously agreed SGT Gallerani’s name should be included alongside the other men and women he served with during the Korean War.

SGT Victor I. Gallerani will be honored at the memorial in downtown Worcester at a ceremony commemorating the sacrifice of Victor and his family on May 21st at 12:00 noon with members of his family in attendance.
