PLEASE PUBLISH IMMEDIATELY:
On Wednesday, March 28, 2007, at Quinsigamond Community College from 6-8 pm, the Worcester Public Schools is hosting an Advanced Placement Family Awareness evening for students in grades 6, 7 and 8 and their families to discuss the importance of taking rigorous classes in middle school to better prepare them for AP courses in high school as well as college courses. At SAORI Worcester: 131 Highland St.
Local Filmmaker Nora Werme created this 20-minute film to express her joy in weaving in the improvisation SAORI style, and to show the reactions of her family to the 26-foot she wove, as it got included in family reunion photo shoots, wrapped around babies and newlyweds, and eyed by skeptical "what's-it-good-for" male relatives. The film introduces SAORI teacher Mihoko Wakabayashi, who explains the four core principles of SAORI weaving, and a 9-year-old boy weaving prodigy with a mysterious smile. Light refreshments and friendly conversation!

Burncoat Baptist Church invites you to listen to the St. John Flute Choir perform “Praise the Lord with Flutes” on Sunday, April 22, 2007 at 1:00 PM in the Sanctuary at 475 Burncoat Street in Worcester. Plan to join Burncoat Baptist at the morning worship service beginning at 10:00 a.m. and enjoy a free lunch at 11:30 a.m. along with this special musical event! Parking is available behind the church. “Praise the Lord with Flutes” is a rich flute repertoire that spans the centuries from Renaissance time to the present. Admission is free and refreshments will be served after the performance. A free will offering will be collected after the performance to help fund future musical events.
The St. John Flute Choir is an ensemble of 10 flute musicians from Sudbury, Concord, Acton, Harvard, Hudson, Carlyle, and Wayland, MA who perform on traditional flutes and other instruments in the flute family such as the piccolo, alto flute, and bass flute. Founded in 2002, the mission of the St John Flute Choir is to provide an opportunity for adult flutists to continue in their development and enjoyment of music through ensemble playing. The group is committed to the enhancement of religious worship services. St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sudbury supports the choir, and the choir provides a regular musical contribution to the worship service and special concerts in the church. In addition to guest appearances at churches other than the St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, St. John’s Flute Choir has also performed for community charitable events such as Relay for Life, a relay event to help raise money to support the efforts of the American Cancer Society, and Hope Sudbury, Inc., a humanitarian outreach project designed to engage Sudbury citizens, employees and business people in an annual community wide effort to provide humanitarian aid to people in need. Barbara Weiblen directs the choir. She has been the principal flutist with The Concord Band, Concord, MA since 2000 and began her musical career at the age of 8 when she began playing the flute. While in high school in Iowa, Barbara won many awards at music contests and was selected as first chair in the Iowa All-State Band. During her high school years, she also played in the Austin, Minnesota Symphony orchestra, as well as in a local municipal band and, while in college, Barbara played in the Wartburg College Concert Band.
