"A fledgling business model for open-source animation and film"
Submitted by wccatv on May 1, 2008 - 1:42pm.
"Big Buck Bunny" is a ten-minute animated film made with the open source program Blender. It was funded by foundation support and pre-orders of the DVD. As part of this spirit of openness, the DVD contains all the source files for the project, and (after the pre-orders are filled) the movie will be available under a Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 license, meaning anyone can remix it however they like.
Much more info at On the Commons and the project site.

This highlighting of free expression and downplaying of commercial concerns seems very much in the vein of what we do at WCCA. It would be great to see more community video projects make their source files available for others to use.
(BTW, I've got Blender running on my computer at WCCA, but I haven't the slightest idea where to start with it.)
