The Voice of Heard/Overdose of Emotion
A few weeks ago, I have read a few articles discussing the debate of autism and vaccination. To be more specific, an article about a mother whose son had died supposedly from vaccine shots and how that story is being told in a book titled Mother Warriors by Jenny McCarthy, a celebrity whose own son has autism. Mothers such as these believe that thimerosal, an inorganic mercury compound used in vaccines, cause autism. That belief had been debunked by the medical community. But there are still protests calling the medical and political systems' handling of the autism-vaccine issue "tobacco science".

This article discusses the whole science debate of the supposed link to the rise of autism and vaccines.

This is the article I have read that led me to consider writing this blog entry.

This article covers against a recent protest decrying a New Jersey policy that requires children to get vaccinated in order to enter preschool.
The whole issue of autism is a serious emotional one for parents everywhere. They are all desperate to find the cause of autism. If we end up persuading the officials to regulate the medical establishment with too much emotion, we are bound to be doing more harm than good for our children. Therefore, in order to understand the causes of autism, we should do so in the most logical way possible. The first step is to allow qualified scientists, who are doing the research on autism, to find the causes.

Autism and Vacines
Your right... The medical consultant for the Today Show was on this morning and she was saying the exact same thing that they have scientifically proven that there is no connection, but emotions around this are so high that people can't let it go. Her concern was that there are diseases that can start appearing again in our society as a result of this fear and that funding to help identify the real cause of autism will be delayed because people already think that they know it.
Thanks for your blog and resources.
great post
very cool to hear what an autistic person has to say about this issue. on top of that, i agree with you
Autism and vaccines
I, too, have heard and read about the accusations linking vaccine to autism. It is good that scientists have been able to refute this false information. It is sometimes difficult to sift out fact from fiction. Your advice to let qualified scientist find the causes is good and sensible.
finally commenting on your page!
this is a great start to help explaining the whole autistic view to other people and reach them out there. i think you are doing a great job and are very informative on this subject. because you have experience yourself, it is definitley for a good cause, keep up the good work tim!
DIG DEEPER
Yes, the scientists say that there is no link between autism & vaccines. Yes, in a perfectly healthy individual, vaccines are pefectly safe. As long as the person is healthy ( no metabolic disorders, genetic disorders) They haven't studied vaccines in the immune compromised population. Also no studies on the health of vaxed Vs unvaxed persons. A lot of these "scientists" are payed by the pharma co's, & are paid big time to ensure that vaccines keep selling. Think of the $$ that big pharma is making.
Also, Tim I think u need to research mercury some more, it most certainly is harmful. It does not filter out of your body if you get too much of it either.
I'm not saying that I think vaccines cause Autism, but if there is a genetic defect/mutation, mitochondrial disorders, premature birth(since a Hep B is given on the day of birth ), even to preemies, I am saying that vaccines could play a role in worsening conditions in a certain subset of autistic persons. They should give the 1st vax at 2 months, not on the day of birth, the babies immune system function is not even completely developed on the same day that a baby is born.
To those who think that vaccines play no role in some cases of Autism I say..keep researching data on this. There are valid arguments on both sides of the issue. Scientists who do not study all aspects of vaccine safety,on all types of people ( not just the most healthy), have no business promoting the safety of such a product. My kid can get the chicken pox & live from it, a vaccine isn't necessary for every little virus, we can get over them just fine without vaccinations..we are all just becoming brainwashed into thinking that vaccines will save the world. When it's your time to pass on, then , you'll be gone, vaccine or no vaccine. That is my view on this subject, it's a very tough subjext, & let me tell you Tim, the dabate will rage on until the vaccines are tested on immune compromised and or those with autoimmune/genetic/mitochondrial & other disorders.
