Some useful info (Free) to actuall help users of Union Station or those you would like to visit downtown
One of the great things about a public access center is that people get to express opinions and share fresh ideas in an OPEN public forum. Such ideas are often rendered from a primary source, honestly given and are perfectly valid. The venue can be useful and actually save the city substantial cost at many levels by taking advantage of the free flow of information and listening to community needs as expressed on the channel.
There has been some discussion recently in the city council chambers concerning the city's decision to close some exterior parking lot areas next to the Union Station. Read more.
WCCA TV once presented a program called "Main Street Alive" a community producer, Jose Perez, roamed up and down central Main Street asking various questions. One question he asked the business's on every show was ,"If the city could do something to help your business what would it be?" I remember the most frequent answer from Main Street businesses was " Make it free parking downtown". So to me, the businesses downtown know what is really needed. So, as in other things in Worcester, it is simply a matter of listening to the people. Something there is always room for more as with parking in the downtown area including around Union Station. Additionally, Worcester Magazine wrote about the situation and stated what it's reporters learned were some concerns from those who actually use the lots on a daily basis. Listening to the people in this case could probably save much more money than going through the motions of extended meetings, administrative staff time, reports and materials, etc. Common sense.
