Joe Strummer on Video Jam

On October 12, 2001, Joe Strummer was in Worcester to play a show. He was at the Owl Shop (tobacconists) on Main Street, noticed WCCA TV13 across the street, and popped in for an interview!

More Than Television, It’s

More Than Television, It’s WCCA TV

This video clip is one WCCA’s most cherished artifacts. Joe celebrated the value of public access. All he had to do is show up and he was on TV. I love how when you listen closely, you can hear the excitement of volunteer community producers and interns in the background. Looking at that clip, after Joe’s departure from this world, you realize that was such a golden moment. Now it is irrevocably history. There are so many more moments ahead of us. That is why we (YOU who are reading this or watching the channel) must all do what ever we can to prevent legislation that threatens our Public Access Channels such as the COPE ACT, which is currently considered in congress. Can you imagine this city without public access, such as WCCA TV, or having Giant Corporations or the government dictating who get's media exposure or not? What Joe did simply would not have happened without WCCA TV in Worcester.
This (WCCA TV 13) public forum is growing to become much more than TV. WCCA is the center point for our community to come together, to create, document, share information, distribute content and free speech, connect and engage, build community as we celebrate culture, heritage, points of view, our personal stories.

Considering the magnitude of Joe’s artistry and the vast numbers touched by his music, his humble and unpretentious presence on WCCA TV spoke volumes for Worcester, its people and for WCCA TV 13,"The People's Channel".

He had so much more to give as reflected by his latest work. We know, however, through faith, he will probably do so very much more from where his is now. Thanks Joe.

By the way that Cope act has to be stopped before Friday this week.

Beautiful stuff...

WOW. Joe Strummer... at our own WCCA!  What an unbelievable treasure, given his untimely death only a year later.

If you haven't seen the Strummer documentary "Let's Rock Again", there's some very brief footage of WCCA studio and the Palladium.  I highly recommend the movie if you haven't seen it and you're a Joe/Clash/Mescaleros fan.

Quicktime

Other videos.

The documentary is by Dick Rude...who happens to be the gent who interviewed Joe on WCCA.

Looking at the Strummer clip again, there's some deinterlacing-type problems. We should recapture it with better settings.
