Watching the Mayor on TV

39.6% of T&G responders apparently watch American Idol while 2.5% of them are watching Mayor Lukes. Considering the millions of dollars of ad market value of American Idol, really not bad. In the Telegram's email news letter they list their web viewer's "Results of the previous poll" . The question was "What's your current reality TV addiction?" I haven't seen the original poll. But after reading the results, I was not too surprised by the percentage breakdown. I did wonder, however, with the Mayor having two different TV shows, one on WCCA and other on Charter 3, if the public really had an opportunity differentiating the between WCCA TV 13's Coffee with Konnie, or the TV3's version of the show "The Mayor's forum". Would there be a different breakdown if both channels were mentioned. In fairness, the T&G is distributed county wide as Charter channel 3 is. So I guess it would be apples and oranges. Coffee with Konnie is her public access production. WCCA was the first to offer TV space on a regular basis to the Mayor and the City Manager with Soapbox. The tradition started way back when Mariano was Mayor in the early '90's. WCCA did this as a public service at no cost to the city. We lobbied for a county wide channel over the years because we felt other communities outside of Worcester wanted to watch our local community programs but we were unsuccessful. As the cable franchise renewal grew closer, around 2004 or 200,5 we notice Charter launched a similar program. Giving the Mayor a show. Here are the results as communicated by the T&G. In the mean time maybe I can convince the Mayor to consider adding a musical component to her show: The Amazing Race 5.1% American Idol 39.0% Top Chef 13.6% Survivor 13.6% The Mayor's Forum 2.5% I cannot bring myself to admit to watching reality TV 26.3%

WCCA TV and the discovery in the City Hall ClockTower

Interesting fact about Mayor Konnie Luke's discovery of a long-lost portrait of former mayor Francis A. Harrington at the Worcester City Hall clock tower: She found it while taping her WCCA TV 13 program, "Coffee with Konnie", with our staff member, Bill Hamilton! Congratulations, Mayor Lukes! What a find! View the Telegram link
