Happy Holidays and THANK YOU

Happy Holidays To Everyone.

As I take time to remember, with thanksgiving,  all those who sacrificed their lives for the sake of others.

I would also like to say thank you to our Board of Directors, Staff and many community producer members and to all of the WCCA TV family of friends and supporters. Without your support, friendship and participation the amazing mission of WCCA TV 13 would not be such a success. THANK YOU.

Many blessings to you and yours for a wonderful holiday season and healthy, safe, and happy new year.

Since the very birth of the cable industry in this country, the government knew that truly local, Public, Educational and Government programming can not be sustained by advertising dollars. The product of commercial channels is the audience. The product of public access television such as WCCA TV 13 is the content which is made by , for and of the people.  It is also the cultural, social and economic benefit it provides to it’s local community. In short, and to the credit of the US Congress, it continues to took the creation of law giving cities and towns across this country the power to require funding support through a Cable Franchise license to the benefit and sustenance our PEG channels. In order for non-profit community public access TV to continue it simply requires such funding, which is not nearly enough, it so as it is, it also requires your support, underwriting and volunteer participation. Looking at it from industry standards, public access funding is relativley a small amount, however the return value is substantially greater and on many levels. Franchise money comes from the profits made by cable companies, it is not and should not be considered cable subscriber money, it does not come from the city’s tax coffers. This comes about through an exchange for rights of way.  Creating TV is expensive, and it takes a certain skill and expertise, that is why it takes  a national market to sell ads nation wide to support for profit commercial networks and channels.  Programming based on the most common denominator may make that possible for these huge giants, however, on the other hand, local niche programming, public access programming that is unique to our Worcester citizens, although it is not less important, with it’s limited audience has far less of a chance for sustainable funding without YOUR help.

So with that, again, on behalf of all of us here at WCCA TV 13, “The People’s Channel”, the place to LEARN CREATE and CONNECT, I say THANK YOU and enjoy the holidays.

Sincerely

Mauro
