“Sunshine Week” is a national initiative spearheaded by the American Society of News Editors to educate the public about the importance of open government and the dangers of excessive and unnecessary secrecy. It was established in March 2005 with funding from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation
This year it was March 11-17 2012
As WCCA TV 13’s mission is “to ensure people have access to the use of a public forum through various channels of communication including technology and media with education and training resources. Our vision is to empower community members to use community media resources for the benefit of the community and it’s quality of life.” It is perfectly fitting that WCCA supports the principals of Sunshine Week. Citizen empowerment, citizen journalism ( something that is at the heart of what we are about) and democracy itself can not be complete without our individual right to information.
Sunshine Week is not an “us against them” scenario. This is all of us working together, cooperatively, in partnership for the good of each other and our society.
