Google cuts lobbying budget but still ranks No. 1 among media, tech
Google cut its lobbying budget by 16% in the second quarter, compared with Q1, but still ranked No. 1 among media, marketing and technology firms, with $4.62 million in outlays. Among others on the list: NAB at $4.17 million, AT&T with $4.1 million, Comcast at $3.8 million and Verizon with $3.08 million

Worcester Legislative Delegation to tour summer youth job sites to gain perspective on how State YouthWorks funding and other State funded programs are impacting poor and low income youth.
Youth unemployment is at the highest it has been since the government has kept those records. On top of that, wealthy youth are employed at a disproportionately higher rate than young people from poor and low income families. YouthWorks, the line item in the state budget that has funded the vast majority of youth jobs since 2005, is targeted to employ young people from the poorest families in the Commonwealth. Last summer in Worcester over 400 young people were employed at over 60 different work sites. Unfortunately, four times as many young people were eligible and needed a summer job, but that was not enough funding available.
For most of the youth this is their first job where they begin to learn the habits of paid work. Many youth work in their own neighborhood and receive important training opportunities as well as a chance to give back.
The Worcester Community Action Council (WCAC) recruits youth workers through the WPS and oversees the payroll. Sufficient funding, along with strong partnerships, are the significant ingredients that have made this program so successful.
Worcester Interfaith has provided leadership in advocating for state funding for YouthWorks and other state youth jobs programs over the past decade. In an attempt to broaden the advocacy effort, increase youth development, and further training opportunities, Worcester Interfaith is spurring the development of the Central Mass. Youth Jobs Coalition (CMYJC) as an arm of the statewide Youth Jobs Coalition.
The CMYJC is providing a tour of five local youth job sites on Tuesday, July 28, 2015. The tour will begin at the Worcester Youth Center, 326 Chandler St., Worcester at 9:00am and include stops at the Marie Anne Center, the Pleasant St Neighborhood Network Center, Pernet Family Health and the Regional Environmental Council. The tour will highlight the Coalition’s work, raise-up a site in each of the State Representatives’ and Senators’ districts, and further develop youth voices.

Pasadena welcomes Special Olympics delegations, including athletes and coaches, from Namibia, Tanzania, and Singapore as part of the Special Olympics World Games Host Town Program. In the days before the World Games begin on July 25, these delegations will be among more than 7,000 athletes from 177 countries that will be welcomed by our community. They will spend July 21-24 in and around Pasadena visiting our city’s landmarks, and preparing to compete at the World Games. The Host Town Pasadena committee is excited to provide food and housing so that these delegations can experience a ‘hometown’ experience while in Pasadena.

Latest Seasonally Unadjusted Job and Unemployment Estimates for Local Labor Markets in Massachusetts
BOSTON MA – July 21, 2015 –The Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development reports today that seasonally unadjusted unemployment rates went down in two areas during the month of June and increased in 22 areas in the state.
According to data from U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor and Statistics, Nantucket and Vineyard Haven were the two areas where unadjusted unemployment rates dropped in June.
Eleven of the 15 areas for which job estimates are published recorded seasonal job gains in June, with the largest gains in the Boston-Cambridge-Newton, Barnstable, Framingham, Pittsfield, and Lawrence-Methuen, and Salem, NH.
Compared to June 2014, unemployment rates are down in all labor markets measured by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Last week, the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development reported the statewide seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained at 4.6 percent for the second consecutive month. The unemployment rate is down 1.1 percent over the year. The statewide seasonally adjusted jobs estimate showed a 10,500 job gain in June and an over the year gain of 72,700 jobs.
In order to compare the statewide rate to local unemployment rates, the Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates the statewide unadjusted unemployment rate for June was 4.9 percent, up 0.5 of a percentage point from last month.
The unadjusted unemployment rates and job estimates for the labor market areas reflect seasonal fluctuations and therefore may show different levels and trends than the statewide seasonally adjusted estimates.
The labor force, unemployment rates and jobs estimates for Massachusetts is based on different statistical methodology specified by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics.
