Worcester and a closer look at the three candidates vying for mayor as we
head into the Nov. 3 general election. Incumbent Mayor Joe Petty, At-Large
Councilor Mike Gaffney and At-Large candidate Bill Coleman have been
invited to take part in an intimate, live, televised and webcast debate in
the studios at WCCA TV. Covered live on-line at http://www.wccatv.com and at worcestermag.com . WCCA TV intends to also archive this debate on it’s webpage for future On-Demand viewing.

Saint Peter Marian Jr./Sr. High School will be having a Craft Fair on
Saturday, October 17th , from 9-00am – 3:00pm in the High School Gymnasium,
Cafeteria, and first and second floor hallways. Over 50 crafters, vendors
and reps from some of the favorite companies in one place. Two full floors
of handcrafted articles, wood creations, jewelry, Christmas items, spices &
food, children’s clothing, cosmetics, pet accessories, books, kitchen items,
lotions and soaps, note cards, pottery, silver, planters etc.
When patrons are shopping and looking to satisfy their hunger, they can pick
from lunch items, snacks and drinks served by our excellent food vendor. If
they chose something sweet, there will also be a bake sale run by the SPM
15-40 Club to raise money to fund their upcoming year.
Included in the day will be raffle baskets that have been donated by each
vendor. Ticket prices will be $1/ticket, $5 for ten tickets, and $10 for
twenty tickets.
SPM Craft Fair’s mission is to showcase the very best of independent
handmade crafts in a marketplace which reflects the work of today’s modern

Latest Seasonally Unadjusted Job and Unemployment Estimates for Local Labor Markets in Massachusetts
BOSTON MA, September 22, 2015 – The Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development reports today that seasonally unadjusted unemployment rates went down in all local labor market areas during the month of August.
The Worcester, Lawrence-Methuen-Salem, Lowell-Billerica-Chelmsford, and Leominster-Gardner areas added jobs over the month. Three areas had no change in job levels while seasonal losses occurred in the remaining eight areas.
Compared to August 2014, unemployment rates are down in all labor markets measured by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The statewide seasonally adjusted jobs estimate showed a 7,200 job gain in August and an over the year gain of 90,200 jobs.
In order to compare the statewide rate to local unemployment rates, the Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates the statewide unadjusted unemployment rate for August was 4.5 percent, down 0.4 of a percentage point from the July 2015 rate.
Last week, the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development reported the statewide seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 4.7 percent for the month of August. The unemployment rate is down 0.9 percent over the year.
The unadjusted unemployment rates and job estimates for the labor market areas reflect seasonal fluctuations and therefore may show different levels and trends than the statewide seasonally adjusted estimates.
The labor force, unemployment rates and jobs estimates for Massachusetts is based on different statistical methodology specified by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics.
NOTES: The preliminary September 2015 and revised August 2015 unemployment rate, labor force data, and jobs estimates for Massachusetts will be released on Thursday, October 15, 2015; local unemployment statistics will be released on Tuesday, October 20, 2015. WSBA set to launch
Webster Sq. Block Party
WORCESTER—A first-ever “Webster Square Block Party” scheduled for Saturday, October 10 in the Webster Square Plaza will serve as a fundraiser for the Webster Square Business Association’s beautification and landscaping efforts in the neighborhood, the Association announced.
The inaugural event is being held in the southeast corner of the plaza from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30
p.m. and will feature food, music by Soloist P.E. James and the group 2 Left, vendor booths, a
kids’ zone and a prize raffle.
