Melinda Boone to leave post as Worcester Public Schools Superintendent

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 10/8/15

STATEMENT BY WORCESTER CITY MANAGER EDWARD M. AUGUSTUS, JR.
On Superintendent Melina Boone

Melinda Boone cared about one thing during her tenure as superintendent: what was
best for the kids of the Worcester Public Schools.

With the support of dedicated teachers, parents and her staff, Dr. Boone has
significantly lowered the Worcester Public Schools’ dropout rate. That means
hundreds of Worcester kids who, rather than dropping out, now have high school
diplomas. That’s real impact and real leadership. Dr. Boone has also been a partner
to the City on modernizing our school facilities. With her help, we’ve replaced
windows and roofs and boilers in schools across the city. And we’ve started on the
path to new a brand new $58 million Nelson Place School.

I wish Dr. Boone the best on her next chapter, and I look forward to working with
the next superintendent to provide the very best education possible for our young
people.
