THANK YOU CITY MANAGER ED AUGUSTS for crediting WCCA TV
A Report to the City Council, submitted at last night’s Council meeting, expressed City Manager’s recognition of the value of WCCA TV as a resource for the City of Worcester and their efforts to make Worcester an ever progressing community. His report referred to two PSA’s addressing voter awareness produced by WCCA TV volunteers Edith Morgan on her show “SENIOR SPEAK” and Senator Harriette Chandler’s Beacon Hil Chat. Commemorate the Blizzard of ’78 with live music, beer, food trucks at the Worcester Common Oval on Feb. 5th

Worcester– It may seem hard to imagine in this winter of 50-degree days, but 38 years ago this week Worcester was digging out from one of the worst winter storms the area has ever seen.

On the anniversary of the infamous blizzard, which buried the Northeast under 50 inches of snow within 33 hours, the City of Worcester will host a Blizzard of ’78 Party on Friday, Feb. 5 from 5-8 PM at the Worcester Common Oval (behind City Hall).

In addition to ice skating, a heated tent on the plaza will house a live music performance by Worcester’s own Dan Burke (from Dan Burke and the Royal Treatment) and beer from Wormtown Brewery. Wormtown will be offering their limited edition Blizzard of ’78 brew in addition to other favorites.

Food trucks, including the Dogfather, Say Cheese, and Press’n It will also be on site offering a variety of tasty options.

ABOUT THE WORCESTER COMMON OVAL:

The 12,000-square-foot rink, which opened in 2012, is 4,000 square feet larger than the rink at New York City’s Rockefeller Center. The Oval has piped-in music, skate rentals, concessions, holiday lights, and more, making it a fun and affordable family-friendly activity.

Admission for open skate is $2 (free for kids 6 and younger), and $3 for skate rentals with a $25 refundable deposit per skate rental. The Oval will also be available for private group rentals this year. The rink is professionally managed by SMG, the DCU Center’s talented management team.

The rink is open as the weather allows. If the weather’s bad, call (508) 929-0777 or check www.worcestercommonoval.com for cancelations. A limited number of free parking spaces are available on a first-come, first-served basis in the garage under City Hall.

Additional information about the Oval can be found at www.facebook.com/WorcesterCommonOval.
