Worcester ROTARY’s “CELEBRATE COMMUNITY” Gala dinner event places the spot light upon the Opioid Crisis
WCCA TV is happy and honored to be a part of the Rotary’s “CELEBRATE COMMUNITY ” Annual fund raising event serving as a media sponsor for the third year in a row. This year’s event will be in early June 2016. This year the organizers are responding to a request from the City of Worcester, to help educate, to help raise funds and awareness to the Opioid Crisis in our region. Together we can be the solution.

Worcester to host Wayfinding presentation Jan. 20th
Project includes public art, creative signage, information kiosks and more
Worcester – A public presentation will be held to highlight the progress and
timeline of the Worcester Wayfinding Project, a system for guiding visitors through
the city using signage, destination identifiers, and information kiosks.
The presentation will be held on Wed., January 20th from 1-2 p.m. at the EcoTarium,
222 Harrington Way, Worcester.
The City of Worcester, in partnership with the Worcester Cultural Coalition, the
colleges and universities of Worcester, Discover Central Massachusetts, and others,
will unveil a final work plan and estimated project schedule for the City’s new
The Wayfinding system is intended to spur economic growth especially in the area of
cultural tourism. Not only will Wayfinding help people navigate the city
geographically, but it will inform visitors of important social, cultural, and
historical information while supporting public art and stirring interest in the
city’s many cultural attractions.
The Wayfinding project is supported by grants from the City of Worcester,
Massachusetts Office of Transportation, the Massachusetts Cultural Council John and
Abigail Adams Arts Program, and the Worcester Cultural Coalition.
Selbert Perkins Design, a nationally recognized urban design firm with offices in
California and Massachusetts, is assisting with the effort.

Baker-Polito Administration Awards $181,000 in Workplace Safety Grants
BOSTON, MA, JANUARY 11, 2016 – Twelve Massachusetts employers were awarded grants,
totaling more than $181,000 to help train their employees to prevent workplace
injuries, illnesses and death, Labor and Workforce Development Secretary Ronald L.
Walker, II announced today.
The Department of Industrial Accidents Office of Safety administers and manages the
Workplace Safety Training and Education Grant program to promote safe, healthy
workplace conditions through training, education, and other preventative programs
for employers and employees covered by the Massachusetts Workers’ Compensation Law.
“The Commonwealth makes it a priority to keep workers safe by setting aside
resources for safety training every year,” Governor Charlie Baker said.
“Each year thousands of workers in Massachusetts receive training through these
grants, making themselves and their work environments safer,” Lt. Governor Karyn
“As workers receive more training through these grants, they enhance their skill
set, making it easier to move into new positions,” Secretary Ronald L. Walker, II
With $800,000 budgeted annually for the Safety Grant program, the Department of
Industrial Accidents (DIA) has funded hundreds of programs that have educated
thousands of employers and workers in the Commonwealth.
The maximum grant amount per employer is $25,000. Employers are awarded training
grants through a competitive application process.
The Department of Industrial Accidents is opening another round of applications this
Organizations that received grants:
1. Family Continuity – $24,824: Family Continuity is a private, non-profit
mental health and social service agency. The proposed training plan includes agency
specific training for FC staff.
2. NorthEast Arc – $11,490: NorthEast Arc is a social service agency that
serves 7000 children and adults with disabilities in 150 eastern Massachusetts
cities and towns. The proposed training includes safety awareness for social
workers, de-escalation, managing workplace violence, and car and public Transport.
3. MHPI, Inc. – $4,815: MHPI is a non-profit organization that develops
housing for people with behavioral and developmental disabilities. Their proposed
training includes training in FA and CPR.
4. Tri State Trucking – $5,885: Tri State Trucking is a full service trailer
truck dealership of freightliners, mac trucks. Their proposed training includes
driver simulator training and workplace violence training.
5. Boston Plasterers – $16,493.79: Local 534 Apprentice and training fund
finances, plans, supervises and implements apprentice training and journey person
upgrade. This grant will provide OSHA 30 training, Aerial Lift and Fall Protection.
6. Riverside Industries, Inc. – $14,712.50: Riverside Industries, is
non-profit organization that provides transportation, life enrichment and employment
services to more than 265 adults living with developmental disabilities in western
Massachusetts. Riverside proposes to train employees in ergonomic lifting and back
7. Boston Education, Skills & Training (BEST) Corp. – $3,820: Best Corp is a
non-profit organization providing education, skills and training for members of
Unite Here/Local 26 Hotel Workers Union and those seeking entry into the hospitality
industry. Best Corp will train members in injury prevention/ergonomics.
8. Accutech Packaging – $12,305: Accutech Packaging manufactures plastic
thermoformed packaging, paper mailers and envelopes. They also offer in-house
tooling, design and contract packaging services. Accuteck training will include
OSHA 10, Forklift, Lock Out / Tag Out, Electrical Safety and First Aid/CPR.
9. Project Hope – $13,241: Project Hope helps families overcome homelessness
and move out of poverty. Project Hope’s proposed training includes critical incident
management that is designed to prepare and assist organizations when situations
10. Bald Hill Builders – $24,610: Bald Hill Builders is a general contracting and
construction management company, based in Sharon. The company’s proposed training
plan includes OSHA 10, OSHA 30, scaffolding, PPE training, forklift & hoisting
training and trenching & excavation.
11. Capital Driver Leasing – $24,868.41: Capital Driver Leasing is a commercial
driver staffing company. The company also supplies experienced drivers for
forklifts, aerial lifts (boom and scissor) as well as hazardous material
transportation. The training will include truck driving simulation training,
warehouse forklift training, aerial lift (both boom and scissor lifts) training,
ergonomics specialist with emphasis on back and dismount safety, DOT/RCRA,
transportation of hazardous goods and associated documentation training.
12. Cape Cod Safety Trainers – $24,877.50: Cape Cod Safety Trainers provide
CPR/First Aid, blood borne pathogens and emergency response training. Cape Cod
safety proposes to train 320 employees within six surrounding towns on the Cape.
