About Smart Meters #6

Arizona, California, and Maine politicians express concerns about wireless smart utility meters, mirroring unaddressed health, privacy, safety, security, cost, and green-washing concerns expressed by informed Massachusetts residents. Many states are now embroiled in opt-out debates following mandatory wide-scale smart meter installations. The Worcester pilot program features a no-fee opt out provision which National Grid promotes as a commitment to customer choice. However, National Grid has already filed DPU Docket 13-83, with proposed fees for residents seeking to opt out of first generation wireless gas and electric meters. Because the opt out provision does not protect vulnerable populations from wireless emissions generated by the network, HaltMAsmartmeters recommends that Worcester pilot program participants opt out of an experimental smart meter.
