Health Matters is a program from the Worcester District Medical Society. Host Dr. VanAnh Pham welcomes Sasha Hussain, BA, a medical student, to discuss cancer care and global health in Cochabamba, Bolivia: Lessons from Breast and Gynecologic Cancer Research. Sasha discusses what brought her to Bolivia and what kind of work she did there, what she learned from speaking directly with women receiving care for breast and gynecologic cancers in Cochabamba, and if there were particular barriers to cancer prevention, diagnosis, or treatment that stood out to her. Sasha also talks about how her research looked at breast cancer outcomes as well as factors such as obesity and access to care and whether and how the differences in culture, language, resources, and the Bolivian health-care system affected the way she approached patients and her research.
