Imagine Worcester: Ambassador George Lane

Virginia's guest is Ambassador George Lane. Mr. Lane was born in Baltimore, Maryland, and attended public schools in that city. He then went to Cornell University, graduating with a BA in 1951. After three years in the US Army, he worked for two years as a Philco TechRep before attending the Fletcher School at Tufts University, from which he received an MA in 1957. He entered the United States Foreign Service in the Fall of that year. During his thirty year career in the diplomatic service he was assigned primarily to Middle Eastern posts, including Beirut, Jidda, Aleppo, Rabat, and Benghazi. He also served as US Ambassador to the Yemen Arab Republic from 1978 to 1981, and as Political Advisor to the United States European Command from 1982
