On this episode of Perspectives, host Asima Silva welcomes Aydin Kavara, a doctor of chemistry and author of "The Balkan Air", a coming-of-age magical realist fiction novel that grew out of his experiences growing up in and witnessing the dissolution of Yugoslavia, and inspired by the fraught and fractured history of the Balkans. They speak on the cultural, religious and ethnic diversity of the region, and examine what led to the violent and traumatic decade of conflict that followed the collapse of the former Yugoslavia.
